Banks are known for perks such as “bankers’ hours” and holidays—but at Standard Bank, we offer associates so much more. Integrity, Respect, Customer-Oriented, Teamwork, Innovation, and Positivity are the core values carried out by our associates, and we work to support these values within a “Corporate Family” atmosphere that includes a very competitive package of benefits, education and volunteer support, and work/life balance solutions.
Our associates tend to be very philanthropic in nature, and we love it. To support them, Standard Bank created volunteer programs allowing associates to donate service hours to a cause of their choice and in turn, earn paid time off. Some associates have chosen to volunteer for leadership positions at local community-based organizations where they can share their time, talent, and experience. Others prefer a group volunteer setting, which we are also happy to accommodate. By partnering with various charitable organizations in the community, we are able to provide volunteer opportunities for associates to participate as a team. Lastly, we can’t go without mentioning the dedication and time our associates have contributed over the years to our annual fundraising campaign supporting our local chapters of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. We are proud of our associates who, since 1994, have raised/donated over 150 wishes (and still counting) for local Make-A-Wish children.
We offer eligible associates flexible work schedules allowing them to flex their office hours and/or work a compressed work week. For instance, some associates are able to take advantage of a compressed 4-day workweek as opposed to a traditional 5-day workweek. Flexible schedules have helped countless associates better accommodate family needs, medical appointments, vacations and more!
After three months of employment, our associates may participate in a 401(k) plan where the bank will match 100% of their first 3% contribution and 50% of their next 2% contribution. Additionally, the bank offers a separate Employee Stock Ownership Program (ESOP) where associates are eligible to receive stock contributed by the bank as an added investment in their future and retirement. As a bank, we know the value of saving and take these benefits very seriously.
Health insurance benefits including medical (with a bank-funded health savings accounts (HSA) and health reimbursement accounts (HRA)), dental, and vision insurances are available to associates. Currently, the bank covers 75% to 90% of the benefit costs, which means our associates only pay a small portion each month for their insurance. Standard Bank also offers life insurance, accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, and short-term and long-term disability insurances.
Our associates receive vacation, personal, and sick paid time off annually as well as bereavement and jury duty if needed. We also have to mention those paid banking holidays that are a real treat—with an added benefit of the most important holiday of all…our associate’s birthday! Furthermore, we offer the family-friendly benefit of allowing associates to purchase additional vacation time in addition to the time listed above. Rest and time off is important to life balance and enhances productivity. We’re proud to be able to offer our associates these benefits.
In the aftermath of 9/11, we adopted “Corporate Family Appreciation Days,” which were established to recognize the importance of each member of our Standard Bank family and to encourage a stronger sense of equality and respect among fellow co-workers. Periodically, we make arrangements to provide our associates a small thank-you or participate in a fun activity to promote collegiality and show appreciation. Some examples of initiatives we’ve done in the past include: a sundae bar social, “you color our world” crayon and coloring book day, “we need s’more associates like you” with goodies to make s’mores, and “movie night” with a free movie code and microwave popcorn. We’re always looking for creative, positive ways to show our associates we value them!
Learning should never end! No matter how formal or informal. That’s why we promote the development and education of our workforce whether enrolling in a one-time job-related seminar or paying half of the costs of a degree-grant program.
We partner with Washington EAP Services in order to offer our associates support, not only with professional counseling services for associates and their family, but also expertise and resources on eldercare, health and wellness, childcare, legal concerns, parenting, and finances.
Our part-time associates are an integral part of our bank and receive many of the benefits described above. Most recently we added personal and sick days as well as 401k to their paid-time off benefits.
Over the years, we have hired many associates from “big banks,” and over and over again, they call us a “breath of fresh air.” That’s because we’re different than most banks—inside and out. We know that a good bank starts with good people and we invite you to join us as we live our community banking mission.
