$4,000 in Grants Awarded to PitCare/Pitcairn Food Bank

Standard Charitable Foundation Awards $4,000 in Grants to PitCare/Pitcairn Food Bank

Pitcairn, Pa.  –  Standard Charitable Foundation has awarded $4,000 in grants to PitCare. The grant money will benefit two programs of PitCare; the first $3,000 will provide the funds to pay for a new gas furnace and windows for one of the Life Skills program homes. The remaining $1,000 will support the Pitcairn Food Bank (now operating under PitCare), which provides food twice per month to over 120 individuals and families in the Pitcairn area.

PitCare’s purpose is to break the chains of generational poverty, strengthen families, and bring hope for the next generation, through education, job training, counseling, and Spiritual guidance. The organization informally began in 2010 when two Pitcairn families began hosting a weekly dinner with six to eight junior high boys to provide a support environment. Since those beginning weeks the dinners now include 12 to 16 junior and senior high school boys along with several adult volunteers. These dinners are what led PitCare Inc. to become a 501c3 organization in 2012 and expand services and housing opportunities.

PitCare’s Life Skills Program offers qualified families to receive a single-family home to live in with a significant rent scholarship. While in the program, participants receive counseling to help with personal and family needs, financial management classes and mentoring, assistance with job training/education, and job hunting skills. In addition, the family is assigned a “personal life ally” who meets regularly with them to provide encouragement and counsel. The awarded $3,000 grant will be used to purchase a new furnace and windows for one of these homes.

Scott Parsons, executive director of PitCare, says “We are very grateful for Standard Bank partnering with us as we seek to diminish the effects of poverty in our community. Through their generosity, we are further along in our goal of providing a helping hand to our community; one family at a time. But we are always looking to partner with people willing to help us make a difference. Through our volunteers and partners like Standard Bank, we truly believe we can make a difference. If you would like to join us in this work, please call me. Thank you Standard Bank!”

Lisa Baverso, office supervisor of Standard Bank’s Monroeville office, comments “PitCare really looks at the needs of our youth in the area and strives to fill those needs. We are proud to support such a devoted organization that works hard to make a true difference in our young people’s lives.”

Standard Charitable Foundation’s mission is to provide financial support to not for profit organizations in the communities in which Standard Bank operates. The Standard Charitable Foundation was established in conjunction with the 2010 conversion of Standard Bank’s parent company from mutual to stock form.
