Standard Charitable Foundation Awards $3,500 Grant to CASA of Westmoreland, Inc.
Greensburg, Pa. – Standard Charitable Foundation has awarded a $3,500 grant to CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Westmoreland, Inc. to support their partnership with “Advocacy for Older Youth” initiative to allow recruiting and training for additional new classes of volunteers to serve older children who are currently on the waiting list and in need of a personal advocate. For many abused and neglected children, their CASA volunteer is the only reliable adult presence in their lives.
CASA is a volunteer-based organization that provides a voice in the courts on behalf of abused and neglected children in Westmoreland County. The recommendations of these volunteers assist the courts in determining the child’s placement in safe, permanent, and nurturing homes. Throughout 2016, CASA 172 abused and or neglected children from 92 families with the help of 73 active volunteers. In recognition for their growing success and dedication, CASA was named the Westmoreland Chamber’s “Non-Profit of the Year” for 2016.
Sherrie Dunlap, director of development for CASA explains, “During the tenth anniversary of our founding in 2006, we are continually humbled by the support that is still growing in the community for CASA of Westmoreland and the children we serve. We are grateful for the ongoing partnership with Standard Bank and Standard Bank’s Charitable Foundation. This grant will support our initiative to advocate for the older youth which have grown to become a priority for not only us but also our partners at The Westmoreland County Children’s Bureau and by the National CASA Association. We thank Standard Bank for investing in a better life for the children we serve and in a brighter future for our community.”
